Whats Up for August? Meteors! Hello and welcome. Im Jane Houston Jones at NASAs Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. 2009 is International Year of Astronomy. And each month this year were showcasing a great celestial object or event. This month its the Perseid Meteor Shower! Have you ever wondered what makes these cosmic fireworks? Meteor showers are just the debris of a passing comet or sometimes the debris from a fragmented asteroid. When a comet nears the sun, its icy surface heats up.This causes clouds of gas, dirt and dust to be released, forming a tail of debris that can stretch for millions of miles. As Earth passes near the dusty tail, some of the dust particles hit our atmosphere. They burn up and create the great celestial fireworks we see. NASA generates meteor shower forecasts to prevent potential hazards to spacecraft that are launching or orbiting Earth. NASA also monitors these showers to check the accuracy of the forecasts. NASAs Deep Impact mission is now on an extended mission called EPOXI. It will visit comet Hartley 2 in 2010. And the Dawn mission to Vesta and Ceres flies by Vesta for the first time in 2011, and flies by the dwarf planet Ceres in 2015. You don’t need a telescope or binoculars to view a meteor shower. In fact, meteor showers are best seen with the unaided eye. You’ll see some Perseids all month long — before and after midnight but the real fireworks will appear in the wee hours of Wednesday, August 12th.Between 2 and 4 am …

Our second Telescope Amnesty event, where visitors met members of Astronomy Societies who gave advice on how to use their telescopes/binoculars and how to get involved in astronomy as an amateur. The evening was rounded off by a special planetarium show by Pete Lawrence & Ninian Boyle of the BBC Sky at Night team. Thanks to our co-hosts HantsAstro, and also to Cody Astronomy Society, Hampshire Astronomical Group and Reading Astronomical Society. This event was part of International Year of Astronomy 2009. The film was made by Martin Sabin-Smith (www.workingimage.co.uk), unfortunately YouTube has messed up the quality during conversion but we hope you enjoy it.

Whats Up for April? Did you know you can see other galaxies through modest telescopes or binoculars? Well you can! Hello and welcome. I’m Jane Houston Jones at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California During 2009, were celebrating International Year of Astronomy by taking you on a tour of one of the months best celestial objects. This month, its the Whirlpool Galaxy! Join me as we step away from our solar system, look beyond our own galaxy, and view the spiral arms of another galaxy. Because we are inside our own galaxy – about two-thirds of the way from the galactic core, we can’t see the whole thing. But we can see the spiral arms and so we know we live in a spiral-shaped galaxy. Early astronomers looked up in the night sky and saw patches of light which appeared like faraway clouds. They called these patches nebulae. In 1845, Irelands Third Earl of Ross, William Parsons, used his huge telescope at Birr Castle in the center of Ireland to observe and sketch the spiral structure of the Whirlpool Galaxy. Other 18th and 19th century astronomers, including father and son William and John Herschel, noted the structure of this galaxy, too. A galaxy is an enormous collection of gas and stars held together by gravity. Since the 19th century, astronomers have aimed telescopes at galaxies, discovering their composition. In the 20th century, NASAS orbiting telescopes have looked at this amazing galaxy to see it in many portions of the electromagnetic spectrum, from …

Ever Heard of Ed Grimsley? He is a very interesting character that discovered alot of action up in his nightly skies. Using is INFRARED PV7 Military Spec Binoculars, he spotted UFO’s in the sky every single night. He would report that he can see them battling in the skies and even made an apperance on CNN a while back. edgrimsley.com He was on Coast 2 Coast one time and I listened to the interview…it was very revealing. the host, George Noory was a little skeptical and so Ed invited him down so he can take a trip with him and be able to witness it himself in the night skies. No refuting it now…George is a Believer. www.youtube.com Now let’s talk about a poor fellow from the UK which was looking for PROOF of Zero Point Energy when he hacked into Nasa’s servers int he late 90’s. He came across some very strange files… www.youtube.com Currently, he is being extradited to the US for hacking into NASA and seeing files they photoshop so we don’t see the alien crafts. During his hacking adventures, he saw spreadsheets called “Non Terrestrial Officers” with names and military ranks. The US Government has been lying to the public for MANY MANY YEARS!!! freegary.org.uk In short, Zero Point Energy of Energy from the Vacuum, would pretty much end the slavery we have going on today. No more manufactured energy crisis, no more peak oil bullshit and no more manipulating of the POWERS THAT BE on the populace for their own gain. www.youtube.com

Ed Grimsley has been seeing battles between unknown aircraft in the night skies since he was a teenager. Ed sees what appears to be Delta shaped and Saucer shaped aircraft in space shooting at each other, using what look like laser weapons. He has seen hundreds of these objects recently and uses military-grade night vision binoculars. Many people have come to his areas and viewed the objects shooting it out in earth space. Using his night vision glasses, even skeptics who thought he was ’seeing things’ have now been convinced that what Ed Grimsley has been trying to tell people about all these years is very real. www.ufocongressstore.com
