I’ve decided to buy a pair of Nikon 10X50 porro-prism binoculars…?

Would these be considered good for beginner sky gazing as well as using them for terrestrial use? I have not bought them yet, but I plan to soon.

Yes, these are a good choice. I also recommend Orion’s Scenix and Ultraview 10×50s.

+Nice. I just looked at them at the link below. Not a bad price, either but have you looked at others that cost less money with the same optics? Go to this site:

and search on the string: 10×50

I’ve got the Nikkon 10×50 action porro prism binoculars and yes they are pretty nice for astronomy. Note you can’t see the rings of Saturn but you will see the Galilean moons of jupiter

a good choice. enjoy. binoculars are a powerful observing tool, and all astronomers have a pair.

please consider some star charts and guide books while you’re buying things. i like pocket sky atlas, and gary seronik’s binocular highlights book.

I like my inexpensive 20×80 binoculars for sky gazing.
Lie down on your back and look up! (or use a tripod or something to sit them on like a chair back while you look)

They are about twice as big as 10×50s so for terrestrial use, their size is too big for carrying around all day. However, for some purposes they might be better than 10×50s.
