Can you take a picture from a camera through a telescope or binoculars?

Can you take pictures of a star by taking it through a telescope?
So you put your camera eye directly in front of the the telescope. Will it be a clear picture or super blurred?
I just thought this would be convenience if it worked.

It does work but getting in focus and ensuring the camera is held steady is not easy. Most people use a T-mount to do this – basically a special adapter that turns the telescope into a very long camera lens. For best results you will also want to up the exposures times which then needs a tracking mount and preferably under computer control.

Astrophotography gets very expensive very quickly. Yes, you can take some pictures in the manner you describe, it’s just they are unlikely to be very good.

If you have an SLR, you need an adapter that matches the lens mount for your camera. This either attaches to or replaces the eyepiece in the telescope.

If you have a digital camera, a company named Cstar sells an adapter for $50 at Walmart that fits telescopes and spotting scopes.

There’s also something called an F-Adapter sold on eBay that will let you take pictures through binoculars…

You can probably come up with your own design after looking at pics of what’s available commercially.

Depending on what star you want to take a picture of, you may need to:

    1) take multiple exposures and layer the images

    2) have a telescope that automatically tracks otherwise you’ll end up with blurry pics

There’s tons of resources online on photographing stars

    Of course you can

I recently watched a bloke take some really good photographs of solar promenances (explosions on the sun) with an ordinary mobile phone camera.

If you have a pocket digital camera just point the scope at the moon and point the camera at the eyepiece.

If you want to do more exciting stuff there are all sorts af cameras and gadgets on the astronomy internet sites to help.

Go along to your local astronomy club (find it on google) and see what they are doing, people are using ordinary webcams to produce images that are amazing.

Give it a try, and good luck, cheers, Alan
